Birth control, also known as contraception and fertility control, are methods or devices used to prevent pregnancy. Planning, provision and use of birth control is called family planning. Birth control methods have been used since ancient times, but effective and safe methods only became available in the 20th century.

A 22-year-old Colombian woman went to a clinic complainig of abdominal pain, because she inserted a potato into her vagina two weeks ago, she thought that it could be used as a contraceptive.

" My mom told me that if I didn't want to get pregnant, I should put a potato up there, and I believe her, " said the unidentified woman.

When the nurse at the clinic first examined the woman, she was shocked to find roots coming out of the patient's private part.
Luckily for the young woman the potato was taken out without need for surgery, and there should be no long term complications.
